12/7/2022 0 Comments Mgsgz classic snake![]() ![]() New Coke Theory - Is David Hayter, voice of Solid Snake, in on a masterful ruse? There's no reason Troy Baker has to sound like a US dub bouncing off of Kiefer Sutherland who's in "Depressed Bauer" mode.2. So this is more me hoping the cutscene/voice directors mold the rest of the cast to fit a better actor. #MGSGZ CLASSIC SNAKE FULL#Otherwise, if Boss is still playing the background relative to how much other characters speak, I don't think Sutherland really brings anything to the game other than sounding like Sutherland in a game full of anime delivery.īasically what I'm saying is if they went through the trouble of getting Sutherland for the role, I hope there are instances where the change feels justified and we get scenes that feel more natural. I could be completely wrong, and The Phantom Pain could feature a ton of Big Boss dialogue either as soliloquy or really carrying conversations like Snake has never done before in these titles, and in that case a more natural performance from someone like Sutherland would be a good thing. ![]() Sutherland's performance would make any difference concerning the interplay between Boss and the rest of the cast. It's just that if the whole game still sounds like an anime, I don't see why Hayter sounding like he did the last few times out vs. I'm not taking anything away from anyone's acting chops, believe me. And if you're talking about how long you've played Peace Walker, you would of course include time doing Extra Ops. Those were also just different goals on the same maps as the main story (except the Monster Hunter missions). Kiefer could blow us away in TPP though, you never know.Īnd the side ops are more like the Extra Ops in Peace Walker than they are Snake vs Monkey. I don't think he's a HUGE improvement over Hayter though, and because of that I wish they had stayed with Hayter just for continuity. I'm holding out "official judgement" until I hear him speak more, but so far I think he's good. I do think his best performance was MGS1, though. Not Oscar worthy or anything, but I think people like to go a little overboard with the insults. I played through Peace Walker again right before GZ and honestly think his performance is fine. Why can't you just say "this isn't for me" instead of insulting the game (you haven't played) and accusing those who enjoyed it of basically lying about their playtimes to defend the game?ĮDIT: And I'm sort of making the OPs point, after saying the voice actor switch wasn't overshadowed by the playtime controversy, all of my posts have been arguing about the play time. Ground Zeroes isn't a fucking demo either. I can not believe that Kojima would have just so callously discarded Hayter, I would not be surprised if there was some sort of orders from above on his part to give Hayter a heads up and respectful olive branch to talk about it, that never made it to ground zero. I think what happened to Hayter is complete crap, but this is the direction the VO for Big Boss should be going in for this type of story. I do find it telling that a lot of people in here who say they prefer the new Big Boss VO are also the ones actually playing some classic MGS title concurrently with Ground Zeroes. His intonations and gravel make him a comfortable paring with the VAs that are already there. His voice is insanely gravely and distinct to begin with, almost to the point of coming across as self parody for those that might not know better. I guess I really do not see the complaint that Sutherland sticks out like a sore thumb for being too good or natural. Kaz is good, Chico is fine, for people who do not know what to listen for and we will probably not have to worry about Chico sounding that young (or maybe even being that VA?) in TPP. Paz sounded a little rough in GZ (well the tapes, her work during the mission itself was good) but I am not too worried about her delivery in TPP. I think Skullface sounds fine, over the top as he is, it is somehow appropriate considering that he is in fact suppose to be a completely over the top and almost unreal antagonist who does things that seem inhuman. ![]()
